Meta Quest 3, Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses
Pre-orders for Meta's Quest 3 virtual reality headset and new Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are now available.
At the Meta Connect 2023 developer conference, Meta Platforms unveiled several new wearable devices, including the Meta Quest 3 headset and the latest generation of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. The Meta Quest 3 headset is now available for pre-order, with prices starting at $499.99 for the 128GB version and $649.99 for the 512GB version. It offers a 30% improvement in visual resolution and 40% louder audio range compared to its predecessor, the Quest 2. The headset also features breakthrough mixed reality capabilities, allowing users to seamlessly transition between fully immersive experiences and a blended environment with virtual elements overlaid on their physical surroundings. The Meta Quest 3 headset is powered by the new Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 platform developed in collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, doubling the graphic processing power of the Quest 2 and offering faster load times and crisp details in immersive games. The headset boasts a 4K+ Infinite Display, achieving a nearly 30% improvement in resolution, and a slimmer profile with a more customizable fit and balanced weight distribution. Additionally, Meta claims that the Quest 3 offers a 40% louder audio range and a new level of spatial audio compared to the Quest 2.
In addition to the Meta Quest 3 headset, Meta also announced the release of the new generation of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. These glasses are available for pre-order now, with prices starting at $299 and availability from 17th October. The new glasses feature improved audio and cameras, as well as over 150 different custom frame and lens combinations. They are lighter and more comfortable than their predecessors and allow users to livestream from the glasses to Facebook or Instagram. Users can also engage with Meta AI through voice commands using the phrase "Hey Meta." The glasses have undergone a redesign based on community feedback, resulting in improved audio quality, a new ultra-wide 12 MP camera for better photo and video quality, and a sleek charging case with up to eight additional charges. The glasses are now water-resistant and feature an improved touchpad and faster response to commands. They also come bundled with Meta AI for US users.
Meta's focus on wearable technology aligns with its long-term goal of delivering true augmented-reality spectacles. The company has invested heavily in the Metaverse, despite significant losses in its VR division. The new Meta Quest 3 headset and Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses demonstrate Meta's commitment to pushing the boundaries of immersive technology and providing users with innovative and customizable wearable experiences.
