Shilo Sanders Injury Forces Him Out of Deion Sanders & USC Clash in Colorado
Colorado's secondary will be without key player Shilo Sanders in their showdown with USC due to injury.
Colorado's secondary will be missing another key player when they face off against USC this Saturday. Safety Shilo Sanders will be out for the Buffaloes after sustaining an injury during their game against Oregon last week. Sanders' doubtful status was first reported by ESPN's Pete Thamel.
In a video posted by Deion Sanders Jr.'s production company, Well Off Media, after Colorado's loss to Oregon, Shilo revealed that he had injured his kidney or something similar while making a tackle during the game. He had to go to the emergency room for further evaluation.
During his weekly radio show, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders shared that his son will not be able to participate until he stops urinating blood. This indicates the severity of Sanders' injury and the need for him to fully recover before returning to the field.
On a positive note, wide receiver Xavier Weaver is expected to be available for the game against USC despite suffering a lower-body injury against Oregon. Although the exact details of Weaver's injury are unknown, he was seen walking in the locker room without his shoe, as noted by The Athletic's David Ubben.
In addition to Sanders, two-way star Travis Hunter will also be absent from the game against USC as he continues to recover from a lacerated liver sustained in a late hit from Colorado State's Henry Blackburn. Both Hunter and Sanders have been crucial players for Colorado this season, with Hunter playing a total of 333 snaps and Sanders playing 312 snaps in the team's first four games.
With the absence of Hunter and Sanders, Colorado's defense will face a tough challenge against USC's reigning Heisman Trophy winner, Caleb Williams. USC has had a strong start to the season, winning all four games and scoring at least 42 points in each. Williams has been impressive, completing 74.3 percent of his passes with 1,200 yards, 15 touchdowns, and zero interceptions.
To fill Sanders' spot in the starting lineup, Rodrick Ward is expected to step in. Ward joined Colorado in May after spending three seasons at Southern Utah. However, the absence of key players like Hunter and Sanders puts Colorado's defense at a disadvantage against USC's high-powered offense.
Colorado is looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season against Oregon and secure a victory against a top-10 team for the first time since 2007 when they defeated No. 3 Oklahoma. Additionally, the program is seeking their first-ever win over USC, as they currently hold a record of 0-16 against the Trojans. It will be a challenging matchup for Colorado, but they will look to overcome the odds and come out with a historic win.
