Powerball Jackpot Soars to $1.04 Billion, the Fourth-Largest Prize in Game History
The Powerball jackpot has reached $1.04 billion after no winner in the latest drawing. The next drawing is on Monday.
The Powerball jackpot has reached an astounding estimated amount of $1.04 billion after the latest drawing on Saturday night ended without a winner. This means that no ticket matched all six numbers drawn during the play, leading to the jackpot continuing to grow.
The upcoming Powerball drawing on Monday will mark only the fourth time in the game's history that the prize has surpassed $1 billion. Previous jackpots that exceeded this threshold include a $1.08 billion prize, which was won by a lucky ticket holder in California during a draw on July 19, 2023. Since then, there have been 32 consecutive rounds played without a winner.
There have been two other instances where Powerball jackpots have climbed past the $1 billion mark. The first occurred in January 2016, when a grand prize of $1.586 billion was won by tickets purchased in California, Florida, and Tennessee. The second occurred in November 2022, when a ticket purchased in California won the largest Powerball jackpot ever with an astonishing $2.04 billion.
The winning numbers drawn on Saturday were 19, 30, 37, 44, and 46, with a red Powerball number of 22. Although no ticket matched all six numbers, there were some players who won smaller prizes by purchasing tickets with partial matches. Powerball announced that over 2.5 million tickets purchased before the latest draw won some form of monetary prize.
Out of these winners, five tickets purchased in Florida, Maryland, Michigan, and Pennsylvania matched the first five numbers (white balls) and earned $1 million prizes. Two other tickets, purchased in Indiana and North Carolina, also matched the five white balls, but won $2 million prizes due to the Power Play multiplier. The Power Play multiplier is an add-on feature that costs an additional $1 and increases a winner's earnings based on the multiplier factor for that night. The multiplier for Saturday's draw was 2x.
Powerball drawings take place three times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday nights, starting at 10:59 p.m. ET at the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee. The next Powerball drawing is scheduled for Monday night, October 2nd, and will be available to live stream on Powerball.com, just like previous drawings.
The estimated $1.04 billion Powerball jackpot has a cash value of $478.2 million. If there is a winner during Monday's draw, they will have the option to receive their prize in annual annuities. This option involves receiving one immediate payment, followed by yearly payments that increase by 5% each time. The annuity prize is estimated to be worth $1.04 billion. The second option is a lump sum payment paid in full to the winner right away, which is estimated to be worth $478.2 million. Both options are pretax estimates.
