Gavin Casalegno Criticizes N.Y. Jets for Selecting Team Conrad: Probably Reasons for Loss
The NFL team, the Jets, received support from the stars of "The Summer I Turned Pretty" on Instagram, sparking a viral debate.
On Thursday, the official Instagram account for the NFL team shared a photo featuring the stars of The Summer I Turned Pretty, Sean Kaufman, David Iacono, and Christopher Briney, showing their support for the team. The caption revealed that the team is rooting for Conrad, Briney's character, with the hashtag #TeamConrad.
In the photo, Briney, who portrays Conrad Fisher, was positioned in the center, with Kaufman, who plays Steven, on his left, and Iacono, who portrays Cameron, on his right. However, Gavin Casalegno, who stars as Jeremiah Fisher, was noticeably absent from the photo. Casalegno jokingly commented on the post, suggesting that the team's preference for Conrad may be the reason for their losses, but he acknowledged that the Dallas Cowboys and the Kansas City Chiefs also have good teams.
The Summer I Turned Pretty is a coming-of-age romance series in which Casalegno and Briney play two brothers who both fall in love with the same girl, Belly. The story revolves around the summer before Conrad goes to college, when the families gather at the Fisher's vacation home for one last summer. Belly, portrayed by Lola Tung, finally catches Conrad's attention, leading to a complicated love triangle involving Jeremiah, Belly's best friend and Conrad's younger brother.
As the second season of the series progressed, fans began taking sides and declaring which brother they wanted Belly to end up with. The hashtags "Team Conrad" and "Team Jeremiah" went viral on TikTok, with Briney's character receiving over 3.1 billion views and Casalegno's character garnering 1.8 billion views.
The second season concluded on August 18 and was renewed for a third season prior to the season finale on August 3.
Apart from The Summer I Turned Pretty cast, the Jets' game against the Chiefs also had several celebrity viewers, including Taylor Swift, Sophie Turner, Blake Lively, Robyn Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Sabrina Carpenter, Antoni Porowski, Shawn Levy, Carson Daly, and longtime Chiefs fan Paul Rudd.
Taylor Swift, in particular, has caused a stir on the internet after being spotted at two Chiefs games, fueling rumors of a romance with the team's tight end, Travis Kelce. She first attended the Chiefs' game against the Chicago Bears in Kansas City on September 24 before making an appearance in New York.
