David Njoku Shares Pictures of Burned Face After Fire Pit Accident
Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku shows extent of injuries on Instagram after burning his face in a blaze.
Nearly two weeks after sustaining facial burns in a fire, Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku took to Instagram to show the extent of his injuries. This was the first time Njoku publicly revealed his face since the incident, as he had been covering it with a disguise in previous public appearances. Although he did not provide a caption for the post, the two pictures he shared documented the progress of his recovery.
In the first selfie, Njoku appeared calm as he sat in a car, wearing a camouflage sweatshirt with the hood pulled up over his head. While his eyes were covered by black sunglasses, visible skin damage could be seen on his forehead, cheeks, nose, lips, and chin. The reflection in his glasses also showed similar injuries on his right hand, while his left hand was wrapped in a bandage.
The second picture showed Njoku smiling for the camera, with the irritated portions of his skin and lips significantly improved. His face appeared shiny, possibly due to sweat. Friends, fans, and followers flooded the comments section with messages of support. Some expressed surprise at the severity of his injuries, while others admired his determination to return to the field.
Njoku's teammates also showed their support, with Browns cornerback Greg Newsome II writing, "Respect!!" and running back Kareem Hunt adding two flame emojis, playfully referencing the accident.
According to ESPN, Njoku's accident occurred on September 29 while he was lighting a fire pit in his backyard. The following day, the Browns announced that Njoku had sustained burn injuries to his face and arm during a household accident and would be listed as questionable for the upcoming game against the Ravens. The exact severity of his injuries was not disclosed at the time.
Despite the uncertainty, Njoku made it clear that he would be on the field, writing, "The flesh is weak. See u tomorrow #DawgPound." He played well in the game, making six catches for 46 yards, although the Browns ultimately lost to the Ravens.
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski praised Njoku's performance, calling him a warrior and commending his dedication to the team. Photos from the game were also shared on Njoku's Instagram gallery.
In addition to his recovery, Njoku announced that he would be launching a merchandise line called "Withstand." He pledged to donate a portion of the proceeds to the American Burn Association, further demonstrating his resilience and commitment to helping others.
