The Vikings take the lead against the Bears with a field goal and a touchdown, heading into halftime with a 12-6 score.
The Bears began the quarter with a promising opportunity to score a touchdown, starting with a 1st-and-goal from the Minnesota 7. However, instead of relying on their running game, they opted to throw two incomplete passes. This decision forced them to settle for a 22-yard field goal from Cairo Santos, resulting in a tied score of 3-3.
After a touchback, the Vikings regained possession of the football and embarked on their next drive. With determination, they managed to convert it into another successful field goal. Greg Joseph expertly kicked a 51-yarder, giving Minnesota the lead once again at 6-3.
Minnesota's defense displayed its prowess by forcing a three-and-out on Chicago's subsequent possession. Brandon Powell's return granted the Vikings the ball at their own 27-yard line. Despite facing some resistance, they advanced the ball and narrowly avoided disaster when a backward pass, which initially seemed to be recovered by the Bears, was ruled out of bounds. Consequently, the Vikings had to punt the ball away.
Justin Fields initiated the Bears' next drive by connecting with Darnell Mooney for a significant gain into Minnesota territory. However, the Vikings' defense proved resilient, limiting the Bears to another field goal by Santos. This time, Santos expertly kicked a 53-yarder, resulting in a tied score of 6-6.
Attempting to make progress before the two-minute warning, the Vikings encountered the turnover monster once again. Kirk Cousins was hit while throwing on a crucial 3rd-and-2 play, resulting in an interception by Tremaine Edmunds. This turnover granted the Bears possession in Minnesota territory. Nevertheless, the Vikings swiftly turned the tables, as Danielle Hunter disrupted a pass by Fields, causing it to flutter into the hands of Jordan Hicks for an interception.
With their spirits lifted, Minnesota advanced into Chicago territory and successfully entered the red zone. The Vikings capitalized on the turnover by scoring the first touchdown of the game. Kirk Cousins delivered a precise pass to Jordan Addison from 10 yards out, resulting in a touchdown. Unfortunately, Greg Joseph's extra point was blocked, leaving the Vikings with a 12-6 lead as they headed into the locker room for halftime.
