Max Scherzer Added to Rangers Roster for MLB ALCS vs. Astros Amid Injury Rehab
Max Scherzer has been added to the Texas Rangers roster for the ALCS against the Houston Astros after recovering from a shoulder injury.
The Texas Rangers have made a significant addition to their roster for the upcoming American League Championship Series against the Houston Astros. Max Scherzer, who has been sidelined since September 12 due to a shoulder injury, has been officially added to the team. Scherzer was left off the roster for the American League Division Series due to his ailment.
In a press conference on Friday, Scherzer expressed his readiness to pitch in the ALCS. However, he was uncertain about how long he would be able to last in a start. He mentioned that he would play it by ear and stay in communication with Bruce Bochy and Mike Maddux, the team's coaches, to determine his limits. Scherzer emphasized that if he felt any discomfort, he would not hesitate to come out of the game.
After the Rangers' victory in the ALDS against the Baltimore Orioles, Scherzer expressed his excitement about the opportunity to return to the mound this season. He credited his teammates for providing him with the chance to continue playing and stated that he couldn't wait to pitch again. Scherzer mentioned that he had been working hard and had not given up on the season or his teammates. He also revealed that he finally felt like his normal self after following his program.
In preparation for his return, Scherzer participated in a simulated game on Wednesday, throwing 68 pitches. This outing allowed him to gauge his readiness for the upcoming series.
Scherzer joined the Rangers in a trade with the New York Mets during the midseason. In his eight starts for the team, he displayed impressive performance, recording a 4-2 record with a 3.20 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and 53 strikeouts in 45 innings.
The return of the 39-year-old pitcher is a significant boost for the Rangers as they aim to reach the World Series for the first time since 2011. Scherzer will lead a formidable rotation that includes Nathan Eovaldi, Jordan Montgomery, and Jon Gray.
Montgomery has been named the starter for Game 1 of the ALCS, where he will face off against the three-time Cy Young winner, Justin Verlander. The matchup between these two talented pitchers promises to be an exciting start to the series.
