Brooke Shields Recalls Bradley Cooper Rescue in Grand Mal Seizure
Bradley Cooper saved Brooke Shields during a seizure before her performance, showing his heroism extends beyond the big screen.
Bradley Cooper, known for his heroic roles in films, has proven that his heroism extends beyond the screen. In an interview with Glamour for their 2023 Women of the Year issue, Brooke Shields shared a remarkable story of how Cooper came to her rescue during a grand mal seizure incident. The incident occurred before Shields' one-woman show, Previously Owned by Brooke Shields, at Café Carlyle in New York City.
As Shields prepared for her performance, she unknowingly consumed an excessive amount of water, resulting in low sodium levels. Unaware of her condition, Shields waited for an Uber at the bottom of the steps. It was at this moment that she began to exhibit strange behavior, prompting concern from those around her. Confused, Shields left the venue without any apparent reason, only to return shortly after.
Inside the venue, two unfamiliar women approached Shields, and suddenly everything went black. She collapsed, her hands dropping to her side, and she crashed headfirst into a wall. Shields was in a critical state, frothing at the mouth, turning blue, and even attempting to swallow her own tongue. The next thing she remembers is being loaded into an ambulance with oxygen support.
When Shields regained consciousness in the ambulance, she was surprised to find Bradley Cooper sitting beside her, holding her hand. In that moment, she couldn't help but think that she must be experiencing what death feels like. Cooper's presence and support were both odd and surreal.
Shields and Cooper had previously worked together in the 2008 film, Midnight Meat Train, and had maintained a friendly relationship. When Shields' husband, Chris Henchy, couldn't be immediately reached, Cooper's assistant was contacted. Being in close proximity to the venue, Cooper himself rushed to Shields' aid.
At the hospital, doctors diagnosed Shields with hyponatremia, a condition caused by excessive water intake that depletes the body's sodium levels and can result in seizures. Their advice to Shields was to consume potato chips daily, as they contain sodium.
This incredible story showcases the genuine care and heroism of Bradley Cooper. Despite his fame and success, he remains a compassionate and reliable friend. Shields' experience serves as a reminder that heroes exist not only on the silver screen but also in real life.
