Daniel Jones Injury Update: Giants Quarterback Exits Game vs. Raiders
New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones left Sunday's game against the Las Vegas Raiders with a knee injury.
New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a right knee injury during the team's game against the Las Vegas Raiders. This injury occurred on the first play of the second quarter, making it the second consecutive play in which Jones injured his right leg. In the final play of the first quarter, Jones attempted to evade Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby, but his leg gave out. When Jones took the field at the start of the second quarter and dropped back to pass, his right leg gave out again, causing him to fall to the turf and grab his knee. Jones left the field and went to the locker room to be examined. It is worth noting that Jones had already missed the previous three games due to a neck injury.
Following Jones' exit, Tommy DeVito took over as quarterback but struggled, throwing two interceptions in his first three pass attempts. Jones had completed 4 of 9 passes for 25 yards before leaving the game. Unfortunately, the Giants' normal backup quarterback, Tyrod Taylor, is also injured and on the injured reserve list due to a rib injury sustained in the previous week's game against the New York Jets. DeVito had previously entered that game in the middle of the second quarter and had a difficult time, completing only 2 of 7 passes for minus-1 yard. In fact, the Giants set a franchise record with minus-9 net passing yards during that game. Despite this, the team did not elevate Matt Barkley from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday's game.
Overall, the Giants face a challenging situation with their quarterback position due to injuries to both Jones and Taylor. It remains to be seen how long Jones will be sidelined and if the team will make any roster moves to address the quarterback situation.
