Damian Lillard injury: Milwaukee Bucks superstar ruled out against Indiana Pacers following calf injury
Bucks confirm Damian Lillard out against Pacers, Giannis Antetokounmpo to play. Lillard's calf injury has bothered him since last season.
The Milwaukee Bucks have announced that Damian Lillard will not be able to play in the upcoming game against the Indiana Pacers due to a calf injury that has been bothering him since his time with the Portland Trail Blazers. On the other hand, Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was initially questionable, has been cleared to play.
In their previous game against the Detroit Pistons, the Bucks secured a narrow 120-118 victory, with Lillard standing out as the team's top performer, contributing 34 points and three assists. This was especially crucial as Antetokounmpo was ejected from the game early in the third period.
Lillard's calf injury had also affected him during the latter part of the previous season with the Trail Blazers, ultimately leading to the team missing the playoffs. This decision allowed them to secure a lottery pick and draft Scoot Henderson.
NBA insider Shams Charania reported last season that the Trail Blazers were considering shutting down Lillard for the final nine games due to his calf injury, as the team was 3.5 games out of the Play-In Tournament race.
Since joining the Bucks, Lillard has been gradually finding his rhythm on the court, averaging 24.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.7 assists.
The conclusion of Lillard's tenure with the Trail Blazers did not unfold as expected, as he requested a trade to a contending team after 11 seasons with the organization. Despite the ongoing custody case, Blazers coach Chauncey Billups remains hopeful that both parties can eventually reconcile, acknowledging the unique and groundbreaking relationship between Lillard and the organization.
As the Blazers focus on developing their young talent, their ultimate goal is to return to the postseason.
