Maya Hawke Joins Inside Out 2 Cast as New Character Anxiety
Maya Hawke joins Disney and Pixar's Inside Out 2 as Anxiety, with new emotions and a June 2024 release date.
Maya Hawke, known for her role in Stranger Things, is set to make her animated feature film debut in Disney and Pixar's Inside Out 2. The 25-year-old actress will be voicing a new character named Anxiety, one of the many new emotions entering Riley's head in the upcoming sequel, scheduled to hit theaters in June 2024.
In the film's first teaser, released on Thursday, November 9, Joy (voiced by Amy Poehler) and the other emotions are shown to be apprehensive about the arrival of Anxiety and the other changes in store. The teaser also reveals that Riley, now 13 years old, is growing up, as seen in a shot of her blowing out birthday cake candles with her parents.
However, things take a turn when a construction crew bursts into the emotions' headquarters and begins renovating the place, including updating the orange console board. Joy questions the new color, to which Anxiety apologizes and expresses a desire to make a good first impression.
The trailer also hints at the introduction of other new characters, as the film's first official poster, released on the same day, teases three additional characters whose names and voice actors have yet to be revealed.
The original Inside Out followed the emotions inside Riley's head as they controlled her day-to-day actions. The story revolved around Joy and Sadness going on a quest to restore Riley's happy memories after some were accidentally turned sad. Along the way, Joy learns the importance of embracing all emotions, not just happiness, for a fulfilled life.
