Miami quarterback Emory Williams was carted off the field with a significant arm injury in a loss to Florida State.
Miami quarterback Emory Williams suffered a "significant" arm injury and was carted off the field during a 27-20 loss to Florida State. In a crucial fourth-and-2 situation, Williams scrambled for the first-down marker and appeared to land awkwardly as he reached for the necessary yardage. He was attended to on the sideline and given an air cast for his non-throwing arm. ESPN's Molly McGrath reported that Williams was loudly crying in pain and the outlook did not look good for him. Tyler Van Dyke came in to replace Williams and led the Hurricanes to their own 49-yard line before throwing an interception on their final offensive play. Despite the loss, head coach Mario Cristobal and linebacker Francisco Mauigoa expressed pride and admiration for Williams' effort and heart. Williams finished the game with eight completions, two of which were touchdowns, and 175 passing yards.
