Tyrese Maxey career-high 50 points breakout campaign 76ers 8-1 start
The 76ers guard scored 50 points in a win over the Pacers, leading his team to an 8-1 record this season.
Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey had a career night on Sunday, scoring an impressive 50 points in a 137-126 victory over the Indiana Pacers. Maxey's performance, combined with a 37-point, 13-rebound, and seven-assist effort from Joel Embiid, resulted in one of the best offensive showings of the young NBA season.
The win improved the 76ers' record to 8-1, placing them at the top of the Eastern Conference. This is their best start through nine games since 2001 when they went 10-0 on their way to the NBA Finals.
Maxey's 50-point game was a career-high for the young guard, who has been excelling in the absence of James Harden. His previous high was 44 points in a game against the Toronto Raptors last season.
Maxey set the tone early in the game, opening the scoring with a floater just 15 seconds in, helping the 76ers to a 38-27 first-quarter lead. He reached the 50-point mark with a deep step-back 3-pointer, securing the victory for Philadelphia.
In addition to his scoring, Maxey was efficient, making 20 of 32 field goals, including 7 of 11 from 3-point range. He also contributed seven rebounds, five assists, and three blocks, showcasing his versatility on the court and solidifying his early All-NBA campaign.
Following the game, Maxey's teammates, including Embiid, praised his performance and celebrated with him. Maxey dedicated his incredible effort to teammate Kelly Oubre Jr., who was injured in a car accident the night before. Oubre was hospitalized and later released, and Maxey expressed his support and well wishes for his teammate.
Maxey's breakout performance comes after the 76ers' decision to trade James Harden, and he has emerged as one of the NBA's most potent offensive weapons. Last season, he averaged 20.3 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.9 rebounds while shooting 43.4% from 3-point distance. Now, through nine games, he is averaging 28.6 points, 7.2 assists, and 5.4 rebounds, surpassing his previous numbers and solidifying his place as an elite player in the league.
Despite his impressive performance, Maxey has never made an All-Star team. However, he is determined to change that this season, and his recent showings on the court suggest that he is well on his way to achieving that goal.
