Chris Partridge fired: Michigan football dismisses linebackers coach amid scandal
Michigan football fires linebackers coach Chris Partridge due to "allegedly participating in the destruction of evidence." He was fired a day before a game.
Michigan football linebackers coach Chris Partridge was terminated from his position on Friday, according to an announcement by the program. The decision came just before the No. 3 Wolverines' game against Maryland, with allegations of Partridge's involvement in the destruction of evidence related to a sign-stealing situation. This move follows a temporary restraining order filing against the Big Ten and commissioner Tony Petitti, who had imposed a three-game suspension against Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh. Partridge, who previously served as the defensive coordinator at Ole Miss, was hired as the Wolverines' linebackers coach before the season. The university has allowed the NCAA to conduct a full investigation and is cooperating with the ongoing inquiry. Michigan Athletics has not disclosed further details due to privacy laws. ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that Partridge was scheduled to make $500,000 this season and was under contract until January 2024. In Partridge's absence, Rick Minter, who has been a defensive analyst for the Wolverines, will serve as the interim linebackers coach. Minter brings extensive experience, having served as a defensive coordinator at various universities and as a head coach at Cincinnati from 1994-2003.
