Raiders release Marcus Peters, Roderic Teamer following Week 12 loss to Chiefs
Las Vegas Raiders release Marcus Peters and Roderic Teamer. Peters benched during game, Teamer arrested. Future uncertain for both players.
The Las Vegas Raiders made a big move on Monday, announcing that they have released veteran cornerback Marcus Peters and safety Roderic Teamer. According to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez, Teamer was arrested and charged with misdemeanor DUI and speeding on Saturday. The Athletic's Vic Tafur reported that Peters was on track to receive $1.5 million in bonuses from the team, but now won't be paid out. This news comes after Peters was benched during the Raiders' recent loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, and had a heated conversation with head coach Antonio Pierce on the sideline. Pierce didn't provide details in his postgame press conference, only saying it was a "coach's decision" not to play Peters in the second half.
It seems that the sideline exchange was the final straw for Peters, as Tafur reported that the Raiders were expected to move on from him. Peters' performance has declined since his Pro Bowl year in 2019, and his torn ACL in 2021 has had a clear impact on his play. In 12 starts with the Raiders, Peters was allowing a 66.1 percent completion rate and a 103.2 passer rating to opposing quarterbacks, with a missed tackle rate of 20.4 percent.
Peters may still have a chance to land with a playoff contender before the season ends, given his reputation, but his market may be limited and teams may prefer to wait until the offseason to give him another shot. As for Teamer, he recorded four tackles in six appearances this season and had been placed on injured reserve in October but was designated to return in November.
