Tiger Woods admission: Unusual confession surprises fans
Tiger Woods is back in action at the Hero World Challenge, and he looks healthy and ready to compete.
Tiger Woods made his comeback at the Hero World Challenge, his first tournament since the Masters and since undergoing subtalar fusion surgery. The biggest question of the day was whether Woods looked healthy enough to continue a limited professional golfing schedule, and the answer was a resounding yes. He no longer has to worry about the bone-on-bone pain in his ankle, and his swing speed and ball speed were well above average. However, his body is not yet 100% healthy, as he still walks with a slight limp and experiences aches and pains in various parts of his body.
Woods started the round strong, but faltered towards the end, finishing with a three-over-par 75. What was most surprising, however, was Woods' post-round remarks. He admitted that he had a "lack of commitment" during the middle part of his round and was not mentally prepared to make the necessary shots. This was a departure from his usual explanations for poor results, as he typically focused on his swing, body, or execution. He acknowledged that he needs to do a better job of committing to his shots and staying focused.
Despite the disappointing finish, Woods was encouraged by his performance and looks forward to improving in the next round. He admitted that he was mentally rusty and made a lot of errors in his mind that he normally wouldn't make. Although it's surprising to hear Woods admit to mental errors, it's also refreshing and not overly worrisome. Golf fans can take comfort in the fact that if Woods' body can cooperate, his mind will keep up.
