Rapper Kodak Black was arrested in Dec. 2023, adding to his long list of legal troubles, including drug possession and battery.
On December 7, 2023, rapper Kodak Black was arrested in South Florida, adding to his long list of legal problems. Born Bill Kapri, he has had a criminal record dating back to 2015, with multiple arrests and convictions for various charges such as drug possession, sexual battery, and federal weapons charges. In 2019, he was sentenced to three years and ten months on federal weapons charges and providing false information to authorities, but his sentence was commuted by then-President Donald Trump in 2021. Despite this, his legal issues persisted.
In the same year, he was shot in the leg during a fight between his entourage and the suspected shooter. In June 2023, he failed to show up for a drug test stemming from earlier drug charges, for which he was released on bond and sentenced to a 30-day drug treatment center. His most recent arrest occurred in Plantation, Florida, when an officer found him asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle with drugs and alcohol inside. He was booked into Broward County jail for various charges, including improperly stopping or parking a vehicle and fabricating or tampering with evidence.
Despite his criminal record, Black released two albums in 2023, "Pistolz & Pearlz" and "When I Was Dead." When asked about his legal record, Black expressed frustration, stating, "All the good deeds I do, all the good things I do, it never goes as viral. I don't know why [they] are so hungry to see me in jail." This latest arrest adds to a pattern of legal troubles that have followed the rapper throughout his career.
