49ers Seahawks pregame Geno Smith out Niners Knapp Stair Climb Challenge
Geno Smith is out with a groin injury, leaving Drew Lock to start for the Seahawks in their game against the 49ers.
The Seattle Seahawks faced the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium on Sunday, with Geno Smith inactive due to a groin injury. Drew Lock and Sean Mannion went through drills in Smith's absence, with Lock starting his first game for the Seahawks. Mannion was added to the roster as an option after Smith's injury. Lock, who was drafted by the Denver Broncos in 2019, will start for the Seahawks after backing up Smith last year and appearing in two games. Mannion, a six-year veteran, joined Seattle after being released from the Minnesota practice squad. Smith, who has started every game since last season for the Seahawks, played through a triceps contusion in the previous game against the 49ers. Inactives for the 49ers included Arik Armstead, Ross Dwelley, Spencer Burford, Darrell Luter, Elijah Mitchell, and Brandon Allen. The 49ers' front-office representatives and coaching staff participated in the Greg Knapp Stair Climb Challenge, an event that raises awareness about the dangers of distracted driving in honor of Greg Knapp, a former 49ers assistant who passed away in 2021. Charlotte Knapp, Greg's widow, expressed her gratitude for the event and thanked the 49ers for their support. John Lynch also spoke about Greg Knapp's legacy and the importance of bringing awareness to distracted driving.
