Greenlane Uber Freight Electric Truck Charging Push
Greenlane will use Uber Freight data to build its electric and hydrogen vehicle charging network. The plan is to start in 2024.
Greenlane, a charging infrastructure developer, has announced plans to use data from Uber Freight, in addition to its own research, to build a public network of electric and hydrogen commercial vehicle charging stations. The joint venture, backed by Daimler Truck North America, will be constructing its first charging corridors in Southern California, Texas, and the Northeastern U.S.
This partnership is a collaboration between DTNA, NextEra Energy Resources, and BlackRock Alternatives, with the goal of accelerating the adoption of battery-electric trucks and the deployment of public charging hubs. Greenlane CEO Patrick Macdonald-King expressed excitement about the collaboration with Uber Freight, emphasizing the importance of making the transition to electrification easier for shippers.
Uber Freight CEO Lior Ron also highlighted the potential for electric trucks to decarbonize supply chains and reduce global emissions. The partnership will explore using Uber Freight's marketplace technology for charging appointment scheduling, surface Greenlane charging stations, and fuel card partnership discounts.
The first fueling network sites are expected to break ground in early 2024, with the first corridors for the $650 million venture operational within a year of the groundbreaking. Southern California has been identified as the location for the first site, given the state's incentives and aggressive goals for alternative fuel-powered Class 8 trucks.
This collaboration with Greenlane is the second partnership with a Daimler Truck unit that Uber Freight has announced recently. The company is also working with Torc Robotics to develop autonomous trucking services and aims to shift 80% of its brokerage shipments globally to clean transportation by 2040.
Overall, the joint venture between Greenlane and Uber Freight represents a significant step toward a greener and more efficient future in logistics, leveraging data and technology to drive the adoption of electric trucks and reduce carbon emissions.
