Despite being diagnosed with autism, Kurtaj was found to be a founding member of the international cybercrime group Lapsus$, which targeted major tech companies. As a result, he has been deemed a high risk to the public and sentenced to a lifetime in a secure hospital.

Although Kurtaj's defense team argued that the leak of GTA 6 gameplay clips did not cause any harm, Rockstar Games reported that it cost them $5 million to recover from the hack. Additionally, Kurtaj's continued intent to engage in cybercrimes, as indicated by a mental assessment, led to his life sentence.
