Dalvin Cook Waived by Jets with 1 Game Left in Season
Dalvin Cook has been waived by the New York Jets after a disappointing season, leaving him open to become a free agent.
The New York Jets have decided to waive running back Dalvin Cook before their final game of the season, as confirmed by Cook's agents LAA Sports & Entertainment. Despite signing a one-year deal with the Jets worth $7 million, the four-time Pro Bowl selection has had a disappointing tenure with the team. After Aaron Rodgers suffered a season-ending injury, Cook's role in the offense never materialized, resulting in career-low stats for the 28-year-old running back. He has now been surpassed by rookie Israel Abanikanda as the backup to Breece Hall in the Jets' backfield.
Despite his lack of playing time with the Jets, there is expected to be interest in Cook from other teams heading into the playoffs. New York coach Robert Saleh praised Cook's professionalism and acknowledged the frustration he feels about his lack of playing time, but also emphasized that Cook still has plenty of potential left in him. Cook was released by the Minnesota Vikings last offseason for salary cap reasons and signed with the Jets in August, knowing that he would be part of a stacked running back room.
The star running back expressed his desire to just be himself and be explosive when he joined the Jets, but never got that opportunity. After ranking third on Minnesota's career rushing list with 5,993 yards, Cook's time with the Jets has been underwhelming. His future in the NFL remains uncertain as he goes through waivers and could become a free agent if he goes unclaimed. Despite the disappointing turn of events, Cook's story is far from over, and there is still potential for him to make an impact in the league.
