During his suspension, Green has been participating in counseling sessions and virtual meetings with team, league, and union officials to track his progress toward reinstatement. These meetings have been crucial in assessing Green's progress in addressing any underlying issues that may have contributed to his past altercations with opponents and a former teammate.

The incident that led to Green's suspension occurred during a game against the Suns, where he was ejected for hitting Nurkić in the face and receiving a flagrant two-foul. The altercation came as a result of a battle for positioning on the court, with Green swinging his arm and unintentionally striking Nurkić in the head, causing him to fall to the floor in pain.

Following the game, the NBA announced an indefinite suspension for Green, but allowed him to continue practicing with the team while receiving counseling. Green publicly apologized for the incident, stating that he did not intend to hit Nurkić and was simply trying to sell a call due to Nurkić grabbing and pulling him during the game.
