Nikki Haley Endorsement: A Helluva Pick Up
Nikki Haley's campaign secures major endorsement from controversial figure, exposing Republican party's extremism and conspiratorial beliefs. Democrats must speak out.
The Nikki Haley campaign has just secured a significant endorsement from Donald C. Bolduc, a retired brigadier general of the United States Army and the Republican nominee in the 2022 U.S. Senate election in New Hampshire. Despite losing to incumbent Democrat Maggie Hassan, Bolduc has made his mark on the political scene with his controversial views and statements.
Bolduc has called for the repeal of the Seventeenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which would end direct popular election of U.S. senators. He has also opposed the provision in the Democrats' Inflation Reduction Act that would allow Medicare to negotiate lower prices for prescription drugs, arguing that government involvement in such matters is ineffective.
In addition, Bolduc was one of 124 retired generals and admirals who signed an open letter promoting the false claim that the presidential election was "rigged" in favor of Joe Biden. Throughout his campaign, he continued to push the narrative that the election was stolen and that Donald Trump actually won. He has also spread misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines, suggesting that they are a ploy by Bill Gates to insert microchips into people, and has downplayed the effectiveness of face masks in controlling the spread of the virus.
One of the most alarming statements made by Bolduc was his repetition of a debunked hoax that children are being told they can identify as cats and use litter boxes in schools, during a speech in North Hampton, New Hampshire.
The endorsement of Bolduc by Haley, who is positioning herself as a "mainstream" Republican, raises questions about the true nature of the Republican party. It suggests that even those who present themselves as anti-extremists are willing to align themselves with conspiratorial extremists for the sake of the party's success. This challenges the notion of mainstream Republicans and highlights the polarization within the party.
In light of these developments, Democrats need to address the growing extremism within the GOP and emphasize the need to distance themselves from such ideologies. It is crucial to recognize that even those who claim to be anti-extremists within the party are still aligned with extremist views, making it imperative to take a firm stance against the Republican party as a whole.
