Smite 2 release date: New game won't replace original Smite
Hi Rez Studios and Titan Forge Games announce Smite 2, powered by Unreal Engine 5, with full cross-play and cross-progression.
Hi Rez Studios and Titan Forge Games have exciting news for fans of the popular third-person MOBA, Smite. The companies announced that they will be releasing a sequel to the game, which has already amassed an impressive 40 million players since its initial launch in 2014. The highly anticipated Smite 2 will feature a powerful upgrade, powered by Unreal Engine 5, and will also offer full cross-play and cross-progression.
Developers of Smite 2 have promised that the transition from the game's original Unreal Engine 3 to Epic Games' latest engine will result in a more visually stunning experience, with enhanced graphics and captivating effects. In addition to these improvements, Titan Forge and Hi Rez have also assured fans that the sequel will deliver enhanced gameplay, including an updated user interface and improved matchmaking. Furthermore, Smite 2 will be designed with multiple control schemes in mind from the outset, accommodating keyboard and mouse, controller, and even SteamDeck players.
Despite the release of Smite 2, the original game will not be discontinued. The developers have confirmed that they intend to continue supporting the original Smite as a stand-alone title, with regular updates and ongoing server availability. However, it is important to note that not all cosmetics from the original Smite will carry over to the sequel, as the task of incorporating 10 years' worth of content presents certain challenges.
Originally launched on PC in 2014, Smite has since been adapted for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game features an impressive roster of over 130 playable gods from a variety of mythological pantheons. Additionally, the game has also included guest appearances from notable figures such as painter Bob Ross, metal band Slipknot, and characters from popular series such as Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. With the upcoming release of Smite 2, fans can look forward to an even more immersive and visually stunning gaming experience.
