Five Kansas City Chiefs selected to the NFL Pro Bowl roster, notable omissions
Chiefs' five Pro Bowl players announced, including Mahomes and Kelce, but no game this year due to pandemic. Sneed and Butker snubbed.
Five players from the Kansas City Chiefs have been chosen to participate in the Pro Bowl Games this year. This is a significant achievement, especially considering that the Pro Bowl Games will not include a game for the first time this year.
The players selected from the Chiefs include Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Creed Humphrey, Joe Thuney, and Chris Jones. Notably, Kelce, Humphrey, and Jones were named starters for the AFC team.
However, it's worth mentioning that cornerback L'Jarius Sneed and kicker Harrison Butker, who have been having outstanding seasons, were not included in the roster.
The selection process for the Pro Bowl rosters involved a combination of voting by fans, players, and coaches, each counting for one-third of the decision. In the fan voting, Kelce and Humphrey led their position groups.
One notable player who was omitted from the Pro Bowl roster was cornerback L'Jarius Sneed. Despite not being selected, Sneed has played the most coverage snaps (570) without allowing a touchdown, and is often assigned to the opponent's leading wide receiver.
Kicker Harrison Butker has also had an impressive season, making 31 of 33 field goals and all 37 extra points. In a recent game, he personally outscored the Cincinnati Bengals by making six field goals and an extra point.
The Chiefs are one of eight teams that are sending at least five players to the Pro Bowl festivities in Orlando. The San Francisco 49ers had a league-high nine players named, while the Baltimore Ravens had the most selections by an AFC team with seven players.
In terms of the starting lineup, Miami's Tua Tagovailoa was named the AFC's starting quarterback, with Mahomes and the Ravens' Lamar Jackson rounding out the position. Brock Purdy of the 49ers was named the NFC's starting quarterback.
This is not the first Pro Bowl selection for Mahomes, who has been selected in all six of his seasons as a starter. Kelce has been selected nine times, Jones five times, and Thuney and Humphrey have each been selected twice.
The Chiefs will be facing the Los Angeles Chargers in the final week of the regular season. With the Chiefs already assured the No. 3 seed in the AFC playoffs, coach Andy Reid has confirmed that Mahomes won't start, and it's likely that other regular players will sit out this game.
