Robert De Niro father at 80: Actor opens up about becoming a father again
Robert De Niro opens up about becoming a father for the eighth time, while facing legal issues with his personal assistant.
Robert De Niro recently spoke out about the experience of becoming a father for the eighth time. The actor and his girlfriend, Tiffany Chen, welcomed their first child together, Gia, in April of last year. De Niro expressed his joy at being a father again at the age of eighty, describing the experience as "wondrous" and stating that looking at his daughter makes everything else in his life fade away.
In addition to his personal life, De Niro is also receiving accolades for his role in Martin Scorsese's film "Killers of the Flower Moon." He is nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category for his portrayal of William King Hale, a historical figure involved in orchestrating murders of Osage Indians in order to gain access to their oil money.
However, De Niro's professional success has been overshadowed by legal issues involving his company, Canal Productions. The company was ordered to pay over $1.2 million to Graham Chase Robinson, De Niro's former personal assistant, after she brought claims of gender discrimination against the company. Despite this, De Niro himself was not found personally responsible for the abuse, and he denied all allegations of being an abusive employer.
Robinson, who worked for De Niro for a decade, claimed that she was subjected to verbal abuse, demeaning tasks, and reputational harm after leaving her position. De Niro countered these claims by stating that he had tripled her salary, elevated her title, and accused her of stealing $85,000 in air miles from him. He admitted to berating her but denied being abusive, and his lawyers also sued her for breaching loyalty and fiduciary duty.
After a lengthy trial, the jury unanimously decided that Robinson was not liable for the claims brought against her by Canal Productions. This case has brought attention to the legal battles surrounding De Niro and his company, showcasing the complexities of managing a successful career while navigating personal and professional challenges.
