Chiefs Ravens score Kansas City ousts Baltimore advances Super Bowl fourth time five years
"Kansas City Chiefs secure Super Bowl spot after AFC championship win, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce shine. Defense seals the deal."
The Kansas City Chiefs are once again headed to the Super Bowl, marking the fourth time in five years for the team. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his teammates secured their spot in the big game by defeating the Baltimore Ravens 17-10 at M&T Bank Stadium.
The Chiefs got off to a strong start, forcing a three-and-out on defense and then driving 86 yards for a touchdown with Mahomes connecting with Travis Kelce. Although the Ravens responded with a score of their own, they struggled to keep up with the Chiefs' offense. Mahomes completed his first 11 passes of the game, and Kelce set NFL records with nine catches for 96 yards and a touchdown.
The second half saw both defenses step up, with five straight punts to start the third quarter. However, the turning point came at the end of the third quarter when a taunting penalty on the Ravens pushed them back 15 yards, squandering a scoring opportunity. The Chiefs capitalized on this and went on to secure their victory.
Mahomes had an impressive game, completing 30 of his 39 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown, while Kelce caught all 11 of his targets for 116 yards and a touchdown. On the Ravens side, Lamar Jackson threw for 272 yards, a touchdown, and an interception, and also rushed for 54 yards and fumbled.
With their victory, the Chiefs will now await the winner of the NFC Championship game between the Detroit Lions and the San Francisco 49ers. The Super Bowl LVIII will take place in Las Vegas and is scheduled to kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, Feb. 11, airing on CBS.
