Mark Zuckerberg Tops Bill Gates as World's 4th Richest Man After Meta Stock Surge
Mark Zuckerberg surpasses Bill Gates to become the fourth richest person in the world, with Meta stock surge making him $28B richer.
Meta CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing Microsoft's Co-founder Bill Gates to become the fourth richest person in the world. This accomplishment is attributed to the remarkable 22 percent surge in Meta stock price, resulting in a staggering increase of 28 billion dollars (approximately Rs 2.33 lakh crore) in Zuckerberg's net worth. As a result, his total net worth now stands at an astounding 165 billion dollars (approximately 13.70 lakh crore), surpassing Gates' 124 billion dollars (approximately Rs 10.30 lakh crore).
The three richest individuals in the world, according to Forbes, are LVMH chief Bernard Arnault, Elon Musk, and Jeff Bezos. Additionally, Zuckerberg is set to receive approximately 174 million dollars (approximately Rs 1.4 thousand crores) in dividends, as Meta will be paying dividends for the first time in March. Mark owns approximately 350 million Class A and B shares, and if Meta fulfills its promised 50 percent quarterly dividend, Zuckerberg stands to earn over 690 million dollars (approximately Rs 5.7 thousand crore) annually.
The surge in Meta shares has been significant, with a 14 percent increase in 2024 and a remarkable 109 percent increase over the previous 12 months. Since Facebook's initial public offering in 2012, the California-based company's stock has soared by an impressive 933 percent. It is worth noting that Facebook rebranded itself as Meta Platforms in October 2021.
Despite its financial success, Meta has faced regulatory opposition and garnered attention for its significant layoffs of approximately 21,000 employees. However, the company's long-term plans for artificial intelligence and the metaverse indicate the potential for further growth and success in the future.
