Kansas City shooting suspect mother launches fundraising appeal
GoFundMe page created for man accused of shooting at Super Bowl parade. Raised $100 before being deleted. 20 injured.
Teneal Burnside, the mother of Lyndell Mays, has set up a GoFundMe page to help her son after he was involved in a tragic mass shooting at a Super Bowl victory parade in Kansas City. The fundraising page aimed to raise money to cover Mays' medical bills as he fights for recovery in the ICU after undergoing multiple surgeries. Despite the page being deleted, it had already raised $100 from a single donation.
The shooting resulted in the death of one woman and left over 20 people, including children, injured. According to Ms. Burnside, Mays attended the parade with his older sister, and the joyous event turned into a painful and sad experience for everyone present. She expressed gratitude to those who have supported Mays during his recovery and offered blessings to all affected by the tragedy.
Court documents revealed that Mays, 23, was involved in an aggressive altercation with a group of people at the parade. He allegedly pulled out a handgun and began shooting at one of the individuals after an argument escalated. Mays later admitted to police that he regretted his actions, acknowledging that he acted recklessly.
In response to Mays' gunfire, members of the crowd retaliated by firing at him. Dominic Miller, 18, was among those who returned fire and is believed to have fired the shot that killed Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a 43-year-old DJ and mother of two. Miller was also shot in the back by an unknown individual. Both Mays and Miller were charged with second-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon following the incident.
The GoFundMe page created by Ms. Burnside aimed to provide financial support for Mays' medical expenses and recovery. Despite its deletion, the page had already received a generous donation, reflecting the community's willingness to offer assistance during this challenging time.
