FromSoftware's Hidetaka Miyazaki offers insight into the Elden Ring DLC, revealing a new land and gameplay structure. Shadow of the Erdtree drops June 21, 2024.
Hidetaka Miyazaki has provided some new details about the upcoming Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree. FromSoftware has been working on this expansion for quite some time, and fans were treated to a thrilling new gameplay trailer, which has only heightened anticipation for the release.
In an interview with IGN, Miyazaki shared that the DLC will take players to a completely new land, separate from the Lands Between. This new map, overshadowed by the Shadow of the Erdtree, will offer a fresh and unique experience for players. While the setting and themes technically exist within the same universe, the physical disconnection will create an entirely new adventure for players to explore.
The expansion will feature open areas, large-scale legacy dungeons, smaller dungeons, and other notable locations, with the overall size potentially comparable to or even larger than Limgrave. Despite the excitement surrounding the DLC, it was revealed that George R. R. Martin was not directly involved in creating new content for this expansion, although the mythos he created for the base game served as inspiration for Shadow of the Erdtree.
Looking ahead, the future of the Elden Ring franchise remains uncertain. There is no news regarding the possibility of another DLC or a sequel to the game, but it's clear that FromSoftware has no intention of closing the book on this IP just yet. With the release of Shadow of the Erdtree scheduled for June 21, 2024, fans will have to wait and see what the future holds for Elden Ring.
