TNT Inside The NBA in jeopardy as league nears media rights deals with Disney, NBC, Amazon: report
Bidding war over NBA media rights leads to potential end of "Inside the NBA" show; Disney, NBC, Amazon finalizing contracts.
The NBA's media rights bidding war seems to be coming to a close with Disney, NBC, and Amazon finalizing contracts this week. This could mean the end of TNT's popular "Inside the NBA" show after the 2024-25 season.
Warner Bros. Discovery, the current rights holder, has the option to match NBC's deal once it's complete, but disagreements over the definition of "total value" could lead to legal disputes. Warner Bros. Discovery, reportedly $40 billion in debt, would need to pay over $2 billion to match NBC's bid for the "B" package.
Under the new proposals, ESPN is set to pay $2.8 billion annually for the "A" package, which includes the NBA Finals, prime-time games, the WNBA, and international rights. NBC would pay between $2.5 billion and $2.6 billion annually for the "B" package, likely including a "Basketball Night in America" program. Amazon would pay between $1.8 billion and $2 billion for various rights.
In total, the three networks would pay $7 billion for broadcast rights. If the deal goes through, "Inside the NBA" may come to an end, but there's always a chance the show could continue in a different format.
