Join us for a free Q&A session with Barnes and Noble CEO James Daunt on June 3 at 9 a.m. Limited seating available.

Join us for an exclusive opportunity to engage in a thought-provoking Q&A session with the esteemed CEO of Barnes and Noble, James Daunt. This event will take place at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 3, at the Portland Press Herald Headquarters located at 295 Gannett Drive, South Portland. Indulge in complimentary coffee and pastries while gaining valuable insights from a leader in the retail industry.

James Daunt holds the prestigious position of Chief Executive Officer at Barnes & Noble, a renowned global bookseller, as well as at Paper Source, a popular stationery and gift retailer. Additionally, he oversees Waterstones, the largest retail bookseller in the United Kingdom, with over 600 Barnes & Noble bookstores, 125 Paper Source locations in the U.S., and 300 bookshops in the UK, Ireland, The Netherlands, and Belgium under his guidance.

With a wealth of experience exceeding 30 years in the bookselling realm, James Daunt embarked on his journey by founding Daunt Books in London in 1990. Despite initially considering a career in investment banking, his passion for literature led him to establish his own bookstore, which has since flourished with nine locations primarily in London, maintaining its independence under his ownership.

In 2011, Mr. Daunt assumed the role of Managing Director at Waterstones, orchestrating a remarkable turnaround for the struggling company after its acquisition by businessman Alexander Mamut. His exceptional leadership paved the way for Waterstones' resurgence, culminating in Elliott Advisors acquiring a majority stake in the business in July 2018. Subsequently, Barnes & Noble came under Elliott's ownership in August 2019, followed by the acquisition of Paper Source in May 2021.

Beyond his achievements in the bookselling industry, James Daunt's contributions have been recognized through prestigious accolades, including being elected as an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2017 and appointed as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2022 Queen's Birthday Honours for his outstanding service to the publishing sector.

A history graduate from Pembroke College at the University of Cambridge, Mr. Daunt is a dedicated family man, with a loving wife and two daughters. Don't miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights from a visionary leader in the retail and publishing industry.
