Angel Reese Chicago Sky fines violating WNBA media availability rules loss Fever

WNBA fines Angel Reese and Chicago Sky for not meeting media obligations after game against Indiana Fever. Viral!

The WNBA recently announced fines for Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky due to their failure to comply with the league's media responsibilities following a game against the Indiana Fever. This particular matchup marked the first professional meeting between Reese and No. 1 overall pick Caitlin Clark.

Angel Reese, a player for the Chicago Sky, was fined $1,000 for not making herself available to the media for interviews after the game. In addition, the Sky organization was fined $5,000 for not ensuring that all players followed WNBA media policies.

The league's postgame media access policy requires the head coach and two players per team to be available for interviews within 10 minutes after the game. Any additional players not participating in the press conferences must also be available for interviews by in-person media. All players are expected to fulfill their media obligations before leaving the building.

During the postgame press conferences, Chennedy Carter, Kamilla Cardoso, and coach Teresa Weatherspoon represented the Sky. Carter did not address questions about an incident in the third quarter involving a foul on Clark, which was later upgraded to a Flagrant 1 upon league review.

While Reese was not present at the podium, she was expected to be available for in-person media outside the locker room. It remains unclear why she did not speak to the media. Reese had a solid performance in the game, finishing with eight points and 13 rebounds. Throughout the season, she has been averaging 10.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game, ranking high among rookies in scoring, rebounding, steals, and offensive rebounds.
