House COVID hearing Marjorie Taylor Greene attacks Dr. Fauci

House Oversight Committee hearing on COVID response devolves into chaos as GOP lawmakers attack Dr. Fauci, with Rep. Greene leading the charge.

The House Oversight Committee convened for a hearing on Monday to discuss the response to COVID and its origins, but what should have been a civil and informative discussion quickly turned chaotic as several GOP lawmakers targeted former White House chief medical officer Dr. Anthony Fauci.

One of the most vocal critics was Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who launched a blistering attack on Fauci, even refusing to address him as "doctor" and calling for him to be imprisoned for what she deemed "crimes against humanity."

Greene's line of questioning focused on Fauci's tenure as the director of the National Institutes of Health, accusing him of approving inhumane medical experiments on animals. She held up images of dogs involved in experiments, claiming that the type of science Fauci represented was "abhorrent" and needed to be stopped.

Fauci, who served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for nearly four decades, defended his record and explained that the COVID guidelines he endorsed were based on recommendations from the CDC. Despite his explanations, Greene continued to question his credibility and integrity.

In a heated exchange, Greene demanded to know how much funding the NIH had received from pharmaceutical companies during the pandemic, insinuating that Fauci's decisions were influenced by financial interests. She also insisted that Fauci did not deserve to be addressed as "doctor" and declared that his medical license should be revoked and he should be imprisoned.

As tensions escalated, other lawmakers intervened to maintain order, with Rep. Brad Wenstrup reminding Greene to show respect and address Fauci as "doctor." The hearing, meant to shed light on critical issues related to COVID, instead devolved into a spectacle of personal attacks and baseless accusations. The chaotic nature of the proceedings underscored the challenges of conducting meaningful discussions in a highly polarized political environment.
