IHG Hotels & Resorts, a British multinational hotel chain, has recently signed new contracts with nine hotels in Portugal, adding a total of 976 rooms to the country's pipeline. These new contracts encompass two collections within the IHG brand, including luxury and lifestyle properties such as Kimpton Lisbon, Hotel Indigo Albufeira, and Hotel Indigo Faro, as well as six signatures from the Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express brands, including suite offerings.
Willemijn Geels, Vice President of Development, Europe at IHG Hotels & Resorts, expressed excitement at the addition of these new properties to their luxury and lifestyle segment in Portugal, further expanding their presence in the country. Geels highlighted that two-thirds of the 976 rooms announced are part of the Holiday Inn family, demonstrating the continued confidence that owners have in the IHG brands.
Geels emphasized the importance of cultivating new relationships and maintaining existing ones with owners in one of their key markets. He expressed confidence in the growth opportunities across their portfolio in Portugal, as both consumers and owners continue to show interest in the IHG brands.
Portugal remains a priority market for IHG, with significant growth in recent years, including the introduction of new brands such as the Vignette Collection Casa da Companhia and the Vignette Collection Lisbon Convent Square, along with the signing of a contract for the Kimpton Algarve São Rafael Atlântico, set to open in 2025.
Currently, IHG operates 20 hotels in Portugal under seven different brands, including Six Senses, InterContinental, Vignette Collection, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and Iberostar. As of March, the chain had a pipeline of 15 additional hotels in development.
