Malawi's president, Lazarus Chakwera, expressed deep concern over the missing military aircraft carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima and nine others, including former first lady Shanil Dzimbiri (Muluzi). The aircraft failed to land in Mzuzu due to bad weather, prompting a search operation that Chakwera vowed to spare no resources for.

Chakwera assured the nation that soldiers are diligently searching for the plane, with international support from countries like the US, Britain, Norway, and Israel. Specialized technologies are being used to enhance the search efforts, as the president remains hopeful for survivors.

Reports indicate that the plane may be located within a 10-kilometer radius of Riaply, with soldiers combing the area on foot with torches. Despite claims that search operations had been discontinued, Chakwera emphasized that the operation will continue until the aircraft is found.

Chilima, a beloved figure in Malawi, faced challenges in his role as vice president, including being stripped of power in 2022 due to corruption charges that were later dropped by a Malawian court. The president's cancellation of a visit to the Bahamas underscores the seriousness of the situation as the nation waits for updates on the missing aircraft.
