Veteran forward Alex Morgan has been left off the roster for the Paris Olympics by U.S. national team coach Emma Hayes, marking a surprising development in the soccer world. Morgan, a three-time Olympian and two-time Women's World Cup winner, was notably absent from the 18-player list announced by Hayes, signaling a shift in the team's composition as they look ahead to the 2027 Women's World Cup.

Hayes expressed admiration for Morgan's skills and professionalism but ultimately made the difficult decision to go in a different direction with the roster. Despite missing time with an ankle injury, Morgan returned to play for the San Diego Wave and was named to a recent U.S. friendly squad. However, she expressed disappointment at not being able to represent her country at the Olympics, a tournament she holds close to her heart.

The roster includes versatile players like Crystal Dunn, who will play as a forward, along with other young talents like Trinity Rodman, Sophia Smith, Mallory Swanson, and Jaedyn Shaw.
