Critics have praised Eddie Murphy's return and the entertaining summer blockbuster elements of the film. Despite the mixed reviews, there are positive aspects that critics have highlighted. Nate Richard of Collider gave the film an 8/10 rating, describing it as the kind of blockbuster that audiences crave.
