Bucks' internal discussions revolve around John Collins trade rumors prior to Jazz deal

Milwaukee Bucks considered pursuing John Collins but ultimately did not.

The Milwaukee Bucks were reportedly considering the possibility of pursuing John Collins, according to ESPN's Zach Lowe. Lowe discussed the situation on his podcast, revealing that the Bucks had internal discussions about the idea of acquiring Collins. While it is unclear if they reached out to the Atlanta Hawks or how serious the talks became, it is intriguing because Milwaukee is in search of a boost in athleticism and balance. They are also looking for a change, perhaps more than anything else. However, it seems that the discussions did not progress further.

In the end, the Atlanta Hawks traded Collins to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Rudy Gay and a future second-round draft pick. Collins had been the subject of numerous trade rumors during his time in Atlanta, but he remained a valuable player who consistently posed a double-double threat. Over his six seasons with the Hawks, he averaged 15.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks per game.

The Milwaukee Bucks are heading into a crucial offseason following their surprising first-round exit at the hands of the Miami Heat. Despite dealing with an injury, their loss in the playoffs was unexpected for a team that finished with the best record in the league. As a result, the Bucks made changes by parting ways with head coach Mike Budenholzer and bringing in Adrian Griffin.

In addition to the coaching shake-up, the Bucks also have key players Brook Lopez and Khris Middleton entering free agency. It would not be surprising to see some roster movement as the team looks to address its shortcomings. Collins could have been a valuable addition to their frontcourt, especially if Lopez decides to sign elsewhere. Even if Lopez stays, Collins would have provided another capable player who could take advantage of the opportunities created by Giannis Antetokounmpo's presence.

However, Collins will now join the Utah Jazz as they aim to make a playoff run in the competitive Western Conference.
