NFL Preseason: Tua, Dolphins Dominate Texans in Second Game
Tua Tagovailoa throws interception on first play, but leads Dolphins to victory in preseason game against Texans.
In a preseason matchup between the Miami Dolphins and the Houston Texans, Tua Tagovailoa had a rocky start as he was intercepted on his first play of the game. However, he quickly bounced back and led a successful drive that resulted in a touchdown run by Raheem Mostert. This marked Tagovailoa's return to the field after suffering a concussion on Christmas Day. He ended the day with a solid performance, completing 5 of 7 passes for 61 yards.
On the other side, Houston rookie C.J. Stroud showed significant improvement compared to his NFL debut last week. In his first possession, he was intercepted, but he redeemed himself with a much better performance this time. Stroud played the entire first half and went 7 of 12 for 60 yards, helping the Texans secure a field goal on his second drive. His accuracy and decision-making showcased his potential as a starting quarterback.
One of the standout moments of the game came from defensive end Will Anderson Jr., the third overall pick in this year's draft. Anderson made a powerful play, sacking Miami's Skylar Thompson and forcing a fumble. This showcased Anderson's ability to disrupt the opposing team's offense and hinted at his potential to improve Houston's defense, which has struggled in recent years.
Miami's offense found its rhythm in the second quarter, with Thompson throwing two touchdown passes to extend their lead to 21-3 at halftime. The first touchdown came from a reception by Salvon Ahmed, followed by an 18-yard score to Braxton Berrios. Ahmed also had a notable 65-yard run that set up the second touchdown.
Despite Tagovailoa's early interception, the Texans failed to capitalize on the turnover due to a delay of game penalty and an incomplete pass on fourth down. Thompson continued to shine in the third quarter, throwing his third touchdown pass to undrafted free agent rookie Chris Brooks.
Unfortunately, the game was not without its injuries. Miami rookie De'Von Achane was carted off the field in the third quarter, and the extent of his injury is currently unknown. Houston's defense struggled once again in run defense, allowing 205 yards rushing, with Ahmed leading the way with 99 yards.
Looking ahead, the Dolphins will wrap up their preseason with a visit to Jacksonville next Saturday night.
