Cardinal Mooney football Class 1S-Region 3 Final: Home game vs Victory Christian
Cardinal Mooney Catholic High football to play two home playoff games thanks to an upset in regional semifinal.
Cardinal Mooney Catholic High football is in a rare position this year, as they will be playing two home playoff games in one season, thanks to an upset in the regional semifinal. The Cougars will be on their home turf Friday for the Class 1 Suburban-Region 3 final, after defeating Lakeland Christian. This is a rare occurrence, as the last time they were home for two playoff games was in 2006. The Cougars are coming off one of their most complete games of the season against Lakeland Christian, scoring 40 points in the second half and keeping the Vikings off the scoreboard for the final 34 minutes, 54 seconds of the contest. They also limited Lakeland Christian to 43 yards rushing and 113 yards overall. This win was Cardinal Mooney's first in the playoffs since opting in during the 2020 COVID-19 season. The Cougars have a brief history with Victory Christian, having played six times, with the Storm winning four. The teams will face off in the Class 1S-Region 3 final at John Heath Field at Austin Smithers Stadium. The winner of this contest will advance to the state semifinal on December 1.
