The Commanders, an NFL team based in Washington, D.C., has announced that team owner Josh Harris has brought on two highly respected sports executives to assist in the search for new leadership positions. Bob Myers, the former general manager of the Golden State Warriors, and Rick Spielman, the former GM of the Minnesota Vikings, will join an advisory committee to help guide the Commanders in their search for a new head of football operations and head coach.

Bob Myers, known for his role in constructing four championship-winning teams with the Warriors, will play a key role in identifying and coordinating interviews for the top football operations and coaching positions. With his extensive championship résumé and industry relationships, Myers is expected to have a significant impact on reshaping Washington's leadership structure. Rick Spielman, who has 30 years of NFL front-office experience, will work closely with Myers on the advisory committee.

The Commanders are currently in a strong position to attract top talent for these key positions, with the No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL draft and a substantial projected salary cap space. While the team's current front office, including general manager Martin Mayhew and Executive VP of Football/Player Personnel Marty Hurney, will remain in place during the search process, the new head of football operations and head coach will have the authority to determine their long-term futures with the franchise.

The involvement of Harris, along with his limited partners Mitch Rates, Magic Johnson, and David Blitzer, demonstrates their commitment to a thorough and strategic search process. Harris, who purchased the Commanders for an NFL-record $6.05 billion in May, has emphasized the importance of building a winning culture from top to bottom.

"This is a crucial offseason for us, and we won't shy away from the work needed to get back to a place where we can deliver a winning culture top to bottom," said Harris. He expressed confidence in Myers, describing him as innovative, thoughtful, and well-connected across sports.

Bob Myers, who stepped down as the GM of the Warriors in June after securing four championships in his final eight years on the job, will continue to contribute to ESPN as an NBA studio and game analyst while taking on this new role with the Commanders. Rick Spielman, who served as the Vikings' GM for nine years until 2021, brings a wealth of NFL front-office experience to the Commanders and will provide valuable knowledge and insights as Washington navigates the critical decisions ahead in shaping its football operations.
