Oscars 2024: Barbie actor America Ferrera disappointed at Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig's Oscars snub

Oscars 2024 snubbed Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig, with America Ferrera expressing her disappointment. Ferrera got her first nomination in 2024.

The 2024 Oscar nominations were revealed, and one of the biggest letdowns was the absence of Greta Gerwig's film 'Barbie' in the Best Director and Actress in a Leading Role categories. Despite this, the film did receive nods for Best Picture, Supporting Actress (America Ferrera), Supporting Actor (Ryan Gosling), Adapted Screenplay (Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach), Costume Design, Production Design, and Original Songs ('I'm Just Ken' and 'What Was I Made For?').

America Ferrera, who delivered a standout performance as Gloria in 'Barbie,' earned her first Academy Awards nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category. When asked about the snub of the female talent behind the film, Ferrera expressed her disappointment, stating, "I was incredibly disappointed that they weren't nominated."

She went on to praise Greta Gerwig, saying, "Greta has done just about everything that a director could do to deserve it. Creating this world, and taking something that didn't have inherent value to most people and making it a global phenomenon. It feels disappointing to not see her on that list."

Ferrera also had high praise for her co-star Margot Robbie, who portrayed the iconic doll. She described Robbie as a "magician as an actress" and expressed her admiration for Robbie's ability to effortlessly bring heart, humor, depth, joy, and fun to the character.

Reflecting on her own nomination, Ferrera shared her disbelief and excitement, revealing that she received an emotional call from her husband and a group video call from her 'The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants' co-stars. She also spoke about the overwhelming love and support from the 'Barbie' cast and crew, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate and end their journey at the biggest party of the year, the Oscars.
