NBA 3-Point Contest 2024: Players, format, rules, tiebreakers - lineup included
The NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis will feature the annual 3-Point Contest with eight players, including defending champion Damian Lillard.
Get ready basketball fans, because NBA All-Star Weekend is almost here, and that means it's time for the highly anticipated 3-Point Contest. This year's contest is set to take place in Indianapolis, with the broadcast starting at 8 p.m. on Saturday night. The contest will be the second event of the night, following the Skills Challenge, and will be held inside Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis.
A total of eight NBA players have been selected to participate in this year's 3-Point Challenge, including the defending champion, Damian Lillard of the Milwaukee Bucks. The field of competitors also includes Malik Beasley of the Milwaukee Bucks, Jalen Brunson of the New York Knicks, Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers, Lauri Markkanen of the Utah Jazz, Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks.
During the contest, players will have a minute and 10 seconds to hit as many of the 27 possible three-point shots as they can. The shots are divided into five racks around the arc, with each shot counting as one point, and special "money" balls worth two points. The fifth rack will consist entirely of money balls, and there are also two extra balls at "Starry range" worth three points.
The top three players from the first round will advance to the final round. In the event of a tie, there will be a 30-second tiebreaker in the first round, and a full 70-second tiebreaker in the final round.
