Ashley Biden diary thief sentenced to month in jail and home detention
Woman sentenced to jail for stealing President Biden's daughter's diary, selling it to conservative group before 2020 election.
A woman named Aimee Harris was sentenced to a month behind bars and three months of home detention by U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain in Manhattan for stealing the diary of President Joe Biden's daughter Ashley and selling it to a conservative group before the 2020 election. Harris admitted to being paid $20,000 by Project Veritas, founded by right-wing activist James O'Keefe, with the belief that its contents would benefit then-President Donald Trump. Despite Project Veritas never publishing the diary, the group's involvement in the theft has been under investigation by the government.
In a recent ruling, a federal judge determined that documents related to the theft, some of which were seized in an FBI search of O'Keefe's home, were not protected by the First Amendment. O'Keefe was subsequently removed from Project Veritas. Prosecutors had requested a sentence of four to 10 months of home incarceration for Harris, followed by three years of supervised release.
Harris's sentencing was delayed multiple times, with her most recent absence being due to illness and lack of child care. Another individual involved in the theft, Robert Kurlander, also pleaded guilty. The case is identified as U.S. v. Harris, 22-cr-00457, in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York (Manhattan).
