Woman charged assault milkshake thrown Nigel Farage
McDonald's milkshake thrown at Farage in Clacton-on-Sea. Woman charged with assault and criminal damage. Farage makes light of incident.
On Tuesday, images surfaced showing a McDonald's banana milkshake being hurled at the Reform UK leader as he exited the Moon and Starfish Wetherspoon pub in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex. This incident occurred after the veteran Eurosceptic had addressed supporters at a rally in the town and announced his candidacy for the constituency. As he stepped onto his campaign bus, his dark blue suit was visibly splattered with the yellow drink.
Following the incident, Essex Police confirmed on Wednesday that a 25-year-old woman named Victoria Thomas Bowen has been charged with assault by beating and criminal damage. She is scheduled to appear before Colchester Magistrates' Court on July 2. The charges stem from an altercation in which a drink was thrown at the man in the Marine Parade East area of Clacton around 2:10 pm on Tuesday.
Additionally, a 44-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker has been released without further action. Despite being a target of similar "milkshaking" incidents in the past, Mr. Farage appeared to take the latest incident in stride. In a social media video, he humorously raised a McDonald's milkshake in his hand and quipped, "my milkshake brings all the people to the rally."
This is not the first time Mr. Farage has been the victim of such an incident. In 2019, he had a £5.25 Five Guys banana and salted caramel milkshake thrown at him during a campaign walkabout in Newcastle. The act of "milkshaking" public figures gained recognition in 2019 when it was officially included in Collins Dictionary.
