Former NFL quarterback Ryan Mallett has tragically passed away at the age of 35. Mallett, who played for teams such as New England, Houston, and Baltimore during his five seasons in the league, died in an apparent drowning, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office. The news of Mallett's death was confirmed by the White Hall High School district in Arkansas, where he served as a football coach. Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek expressed his condolences, stating that the university had lost an "incredibly special person."

Mallett had a successful college career, playing for the University of Michigan before transferring to Arkansas. In his two seasons with the Razorbacks, he threw for 7,493 yards and 62 touchdowns. He was drafted by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2011 NFL draft and went on to appear in four games with the team during the 2012 season.

New England coach Bill Belichick expressed his sadness over Mallett's passing, stating that he was "extremely saddened" by the news. Mallett later played for the Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens, making a total of six starts in nine games with the Texans and two starts in eight appearances with the Ravens. Throughout his NFL career, he completed 190 of his 345 attempts for 1,835 yards and nine touchdowns with 10 interceptions.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh also paid tribute to Mallett, saying that he will always remember the love he had for his teammates and his passion for the game. Mallett's first career touchdown pass came in a game against the Cleveland Browns in 2014 when he threw a 2-yard pass to defensive end J.J. Watt.
