How many Fantastic Four movies exist and where to watch them | Digital Trends
Marvel Studios has announced the cast of The Fantastic Four, which will arrive in theaters on July 25, 2025. Watch the previous movies.
The next Fantastic Four reboot is set to hit theaters in 2025, marking nearly a decade since the last one. As we eagerly await its release, let's take a look back at the previous four Fantastic Four movies, including the unreleased 1994 version.
The 1994 film, directed by Roger Corman, was a low-budget affair but remained faithful to the comics. Despite its B-movie status, it featured costumes based on the characters' comic book counterparts, and the cast included actors matching the age and transformation of the characters. Although Marvel buried the film, bootleg copies have surfaced and are now available on YouTube.
In 2005, the first "real" Fantastic Four movie was released, featuring a cast that included Chris Evans, who later went on to play Captain America, and Michael Chiklis, who was an inspired choice for the Thing. While not a beloved film, it did earn a sequel and is available to watch on Disney+.
The 2007 sequel, "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," adapted one of the comic's most famous storylines and introduced the Silver Surfer. While it had more fun scenes than its predecessor, the return of Doctor Doom as the main villain and the portrayal of Galactus as a space cloud were not well-received. This film is also available on Disney+.
In 2015, "Fantastic Four" was released as a grim and dark reimagining of the comic book heroes. Despite a solid cast, including Michael B. Jordan as the Human Torch, the film's execution and script led to its failure. Disney ultimately acquired 20th Century Fox to ensure that the company could never make another Fantastic Four film. This version is available to watch on Max.
As we anticipate the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, we hope it will be the charm for Marvel's first family of superheroes. Which of these films will you be watching as we wait for the new release?
