Happy Tax Day in Houston: Tips and Deadlines for Filing Taxes
Tax Day has arrived in Houston, but the IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center unexpectedly closed, leaving residents stranded and without help.
Good morning, Houston!
I'm Holly Galvan, and I'm here to talk about Tax Day. Have you filed your taxes yet? Well, some Houston locals faced a challenge over the weekend with the unexpected closure of the IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center in southwest Houston. This sudden shutdown left many Houstonians in need of tax assistance stranded.
Let's talk about the weather. Today, we're looking at a high of 82 degrees and a low of 68 degrees. Meteorologist Anthony Yanez says we can say goodbye to hoodies and sweaters as Houston wakes up to temperatures in the lower 70s and highs in the lower 80s. Humidity will be on the rise this week, making it feel like early summer with a heat index in the mid-90s. Expect more clouds than sun with a possible stray shower from Tuesday to Friday.
Now, let's dive into Houston's top headlines. A teen burglar was caught on video stealing over $500,000 worth of jewelry from Houston stores and has been arrested. The closure of the IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center caught many Houston residents off guard, leaving them without tax assistance just days before Tax Day. In a tragic incident, a man called 911 on himself, confessing to shooting his wife to death in east Houston. Additionally, a suspect was killed in a police shootout near FM 1960 after firing at deputies following a brief pursuit.
